It can be hard to tell the difference between professional and personal life — it’s easy to get lost in the excitement and pressure of achieving work related goals and forgetting who we are when we actually have time for ourselves.

Tim Ferriss’s The 4-Hour Workweek changed this for me. If you want to learn how to effectively set goals both in your professional and personal life, 4HWW is a great tool — not just for setting them, but to achieve them.

The thing that has really changed it for me was to start perceiving my life as a whole: although personal and professional life exist as separate entities (and I find it healthy to keep it that way), they need to be integrated, they need to be symbiotic (thanks Emily Trimble for pointing that out!)

When you realize this, your goals are less likely to separate into “work” and “life”, and more likely to accurately represent your authentic needs and desires, as a full, complete human being.

The art of goal setting takes time to perfect. I am still learning, but the best tip I can offer is to revisit your long term goals everyday, and take ten minutes to set clear steps that you can take that day to get closer to achieving them.

Thanks Julie for this amazing article!
